Community and Citizen Journalism Midterms

"Differentiate citizen journalism and community journalism in only 6-10 sentences. no need to cite references and it has to be originally written by you."

In the context of citizen journalism, the citizens plays an active part in partaking in disseminating of news. The only requirement for such is a mobile phone with a camera and an internet access. Sometimes there is little standard that they follow and are subject to scrutiny by professional media practitioners. Yet despite the scrutiny they face, they are an important asset in ensuring news gets attention by the media by providing a scoop.

Opposite to this, community journalism focuses on the locality of the news, with professional standards of gathering news sources albeit in a smaller scale. A major example of this is GMA regional TV and Radyo Bulacan, few of the many local media stations in the Philippines. Since most news in certain regions cannot be broadcasted on the main network, community journalism helps solve this problem.

"Choose a unique local issue which you think can be resolved by community journalism and why. explain in 6-10 sentences. no need to cite references and it has to be originally written by you."

Commuters had to endure the heat and cold of the weather while waiting for PUVs to take them on their respective destinations. Adding to that the risk of getting robbed is higher than usual with the lack of working street lamps.

As the town of San Rafael becomes a bustling municipality and a hub for commercialized industries and housing. A major problem arises when there is a lack of a center terminal for busses, jeepneys and tricycles in the area. While the San Rafael Public Market serves as a central terminal for Jeepneys and a few TODAs servicing the town. It remains insufficient with how unmanaged these services , causing heavy traffic in areas of drop off.

By raising awareness via community journalism maybe the local government of San Rafael will take action by providing a proper terminal hub with a waiting shed to give shade on commuters. With the addition of brighter and working street lamps may help alleviate the fear of a hold up or any petty crime within the town.
