Community and Citizen Journalism Midterm Exam
In your own words differentiate citizen journalism to community journalism.
1. From my own perspective, citizen journalism is like an impromptu performance, always ready. They're always on the go with their cameras: capturing news and stories. I believe that citizen journalism brings a different perspective to the public with its style. On the other hand, community journalism is more of an established media as as tv stations. They publish news with more sophistication, in a manner of having more research about certain topics. In easier terms, for me, citizen journalism is like a street-ambush interview while community journalism is like a morning news program.
Choose a unique local issue which you think can be addressed through community journalism and why?
2. A local issue that has been existing in Malolos for a long time now is the persistent traffic caused by unnecessary road construction projects. Community journalist can start by knowing the reason behind these projects that've been going on for years and identify them. With this, we can raise awareness about their impact on our traffic jam and with the residents. Through making the affected citizens' voices be heard, we can reach out to the local authorities to consider another way to solve the problem. A community journalist can also suggest solutions to further enrich the local's ideas. By these efforts, we can support our local community towards a more refined and competent community.
