Community and Citizen Journalism Midterm Exam | Gian Pagtalunan

Differentiate citizen journalism and community journalism.

Community and Citizen journalism both give different perspectives on issues in the diverse society that we live in. However, both can be used effectively in different circumstances. Citizen journalism can be done by any individual who has a digital tool to produce any kind of story. This can give a raw and unfiltered story that can provide its audience with a not-so-ordinary news story. On the other hand, community journalism is done by professional journalists who make themselves part of that community to tell a story in its most authentic and humane way. Since journalism has always been for the public, ordinary citizens and professional journalists can collaborate for more effective and harmonious journalism in the future, just like what we are starting to learn today as digital media continues to dominate the mode of journalism these days.

Choose a unique local issue that you think can be resolved by community journalism and why.

Since the school calendar changed due to the pandemic, students were studying during the summer season. Community journalism has doors open to interview and make a story about the persistent global warming and climate change in every community. By doing this one community at a time, they can help even the elderly to be aware of this alarming situation that we all are experiencing. Community journalists can make a story of it with an angle of “students-households” to emphasize that no one of us is excused in this issue and we all have a responsibility to save and preserve our dying world.
