Citizen and Community Journalism Midterm Exam - Dimla, Angelica
Citizen journalism is like writing, reporting, and gathering information as an ordinary person. This kind of journalist is usually on social media, and most of them have websites, one of which is a blog. Citizen journalism is like an active role in disseminating news and information.
Meanwhile, community journalism is like staying in one community and making extra efforts to make people aware of what is happening in their society. This type of journalism also encourages individuals in a particular community to raise their voices and opinions in order to live in a better environment. Citizen journalism can also help empower communities.
2. In 6 to 10 sentences, choose a unique local issue that you think can be resolved through community journalism and explain why in your own words.
In Bulacan, there is an alarming man who always scams in different stores. He used to order, then eventually cancel it and ask for a refund. He would exchange the money for a lower value, and then he would ask for more. He really does this kind of scamming for so many stores, mostly in Bulacan, but yet he is still around freely to go everywhere he wants and has not received any punishment until now. Hence, I do believe that he should be punished with the help of the citizen journalism we have. Because, as we tackled, citizen journalism is on social media. Now a days, social media has huge power, covering almost the whole world, so why not use it to spread awareness and also to determine the liable?
I believe that through social media, this kind of community issue will be manageable. Doing this everywhere in our country could help individuals get the justice they want. The liable would be punished, and each of us could work and live freely without hesitation against scammers and all.
