Citizen and Community Journalism

1.In 6 to 10 sentences, differentiate citizen journalism and community journalism in your own words.

In this ever evolving world, the sources of news or information can be found anywhere and anytime with the help of Citizen and Community Journalism. But to differentiate this two, Citizen Journalism gives freedom to any citizen to get and provide information and send it to the people directly. This type of journalism encourage everyone to be involved, it is free from anything and everyone can be a part of it. A news or information from the Citizen Journalism can be raw, unedited and does not undergo a process before it was published. Meanwhile, the Community Journalism holds a strong principles, guidelines and rules in publishing, giving or disseminating information. This type of journalism has a credible sources and undergo a lot of process to be able to provide information. Community Journalism focus on a particular issue or problem in a specific community and that issue can be publish by the help of this kind of journalism. People thinks that this two types of journalism have a competition but if we look at the biggest picture of it, this type of journalism can be powerful if they will collaborate with each other. If this happen, anything or any issue that are unseen can be publish and will definitely help to provide information for the sake of the community.

2. In 6 to 10 sentences, choose a unique local issue that you think can be resolved through community journalism and explain why in your own words.

I live in Impong Subdivision, Barangay Turo, Bocaue, Bulacan. Our Barangay is just a small community and the main problem is flood but to give a unique local issue, the best that I can tell is the life of many residents here, living like an informal settlers. Besides of Impong Subdivision, there's a place where small houses built and this is where many families live but the thing is they did not own that lot where there houses built and they need to pay as early as they can so that they can stay there for a long time because if not, then they will lost shelter and everything. The life there is hard, they have no supply of water and they only used water pump or poso to get water. Also, their place is besides of the river so everytime that there's an typhoon, they need to evacuate all their things because the flood there is high and after that flood, all their houses are damage so they need to repair and built again and again. This issue is not new for everyone but for someone who is just a small community, government didn't see it so that with the help of community journalism, this issue can be seen by higher authorities and with that, they will find ways on how to solved this kind of problem. Community Journalism needed by this type of certain communities because they need a platform to voice out their concern and as a community journalism, it's in the job description to tell unheard stories and introduced it to the authority and leaders of our country.
