For the people we remain: Citizen and Community Journalism

Differentiate citizen journalism and community journalism in only 6-10 sentences.

Writing this knowledge about the difference between citizen journalism and community journalism, all come from the two-years of my journey taking this Journalism college degree.

As for me, citizen journalism is a type of Journalism, where contributors or what we called, non-professional journalists are using their online platforms to publish and disseminate a straight news story about a current event in order to be publicly known.

On the contrary, community journalism is another type of Journalism, where professional journalists are designated in a community of concerned to stay, live with, for the journalists to have a first-hand experience, and to create stories with different angles about the everyday struggles and dilemma of those people who are neglected, underrepresented, and those who remain in shadows who cannot speak for themselves.

Choose a unique local issue which you think can be resolved by community journalism and why. Explain in 6-10 sentences.

The local issue that is evident here in our community and the others is about the current state of literacy of the children. As someone who aspires to be a Journalist, I've encountered number of kids who are unable to read, write, and speak in a way that we are able to understand them. These kinds of circumstances are the roots that are pulling them in a mud full of deprivations and deficiency. But, if we will harness the strength and capabilities of community journalists, I think we can make possibilities and turn them into reality.

Given the said local issue, community journalists who will create stories of strength and inspiration about the current status quo of our pillars of hope, can transcend these advocacy and campaign to the different groups, organizations, and volunteers to plan an action.

This is such a great opportunity for the young children to teach them at their young age that education is powerful and that it is something that you can use for the rest of your life.

Community Journalists have the potential to close the gap between the less fortunate and those who want to help these people but they cannot reach them. The stories that they are unfolding and the realities they are unveiling will become the center for call and start for new beginnings.
