Citizen and community journalism: Take-home exam

 1. Differentiate citizen journalism and community journalism in only 6-10 sentences.

Citizen journalism is way more easier to do than community journalism. In citizen journalism, you will just record an event and publish it. While in community journalism, you must conduct research and observe the problem of a specific community to help them address it and solve it by establishing awareness among the public. Furthermore, in citizen journalism there is no in-depth discussion about a certain issue. However, it can help journalists to write a story discussing the circumstance that a citizen journalist posted.

To conclude, both of them are important in practicing journalism since they are both helpful in establishing consciousness among people.

2. Choose a unique local issue which you think can be resolved by community journalism and why. Explain in 6-10 sentences.

The unique local issue that I think can be resolved by community journalism is a problem about the increasing amount of mendicants in the City of Malolos. Most of them are roaming in the Capitol and in the Municipal Hall but government don't do anything regarding the issue.

There was an old woman living under the footbridge in front of our university, she was beaten up and robbed by unknown people based on a concerned student who posted her on social media. After her story was published, the old woman was rescued but sometimes I still see her under the footbridge. The issue of poverty in our country is so serious and we should do something to serve as a voice to the voiceless.

In conclusion, we should continue to call for more actions so that we can contribute and help them to solve these kinds of issues in our community.
